A two-generation business that started 48 years ago in their garage and still going strong – IMPRESSIVE!
Green Street Natural Foods, you guessed it – on Green Street in Melrose, has been supplying the community with high quality organic produce and products for nearly a half a century. Winnie and Gerry Cantin started in 1973 as a co-op and were pioneers in natural health and nutrition. Their son, Jason, runs the store with his parents.
The diminutive store nestled behind the white house the Cantin’s still live in carries an enormous variety of healthy foods, fresh organic produce, cleaning supplies, personal care and CBD products, and nutritional supplements.
All their produce is 100% organic, and when in season, locally sourced. They work with 60 independent companies to bring you the best natural goods.
The honey is local. They have vats of light or dark honey in addition to prefilled bottles. The dark honey has a slight molasses flavor and is incredible over yogurt and for cooking. I highly recommend the dark honey!
You can grind your own peanut butter and sweet-smelling coffee. The HERBS are incredible – they have an impressive selection in large jars that you can scoop as much as you need. They have small bags to store your choice herbs but next time I will take my containers. The Italian spice mixture on pizza and Italian food adds so much flavor. I must warn you the red pepper flakes are powerful, fabulous but powerful.
Two generations later, you can still find Green Street Natural Foods behind that unassuming, white duplex. Sharing their passion and knowledge of organic, natural foods that taste great and support a healthy lifestyle.
