Very exciting news!

The Kitchen, a culinary school and community kitchen will be hosting its first classes mid-May. The cooking lessons are for adults and children.

I was lucky enough to meet the owner, Julie Unger, and see the renovations to the old commercial kitchen at the Seven Hills Pasta Company on Hurd St by West Wyoming.

Julie’s vision is to have a space for all ages to gather and learn from experienced chefs. Many of you may be familiar with Julie, she is the Executive Director of the Melrose Farmers' Market.

With a background in community organizing and marketing and a special interest in healthy eating, Julie developed the concept of The Kitchen. She wanted to develop a community where aspiring chefs can learn, gather, and create.

Her goal is to bring the community together and to equip chefs of all ages with the knowledge and skills to create dishes from scratch, to understand where our food comes from and to recognize the benefits of whole unprocessed foods. They will offer classes in ethnic cuisines as a way to learn about the world of food and each other.

The Kitchen will also offer private dinner parties. Choose from a selection of menus or work with our chefs to create a customized gastronomic experience you and your party won't soon forget. The Kitchen can accommodate up 24 guests.

I can’t wait to put my apron on and start cooking!!!!!

Open just over a month and hitting it out of the park!!!

The Kitchen, a great place to learn new cooking skills, try innovative recipes, and meet new friends!

Tonight, we attended Dumplings From Around the World class. Chef Brian, a superb instructor, gave us information on the culinary history of dumplings. We broke into groups to make pork wontons, potato pierogi, sweet apple pierogi, and ricotta and spinach filled raviolis.

Each table was full of talking, laughing, and busy hands. We had a chance to switch tables and help at each station, in order to experience and practice using all the techniques. In no time our creations were being cooked and just as quickly eaten!

The pork dumplings were steamed or fried and service with an exceptional soy dipping sauce that our table created without a recipe. So PROUD!

The potato dumplings were served with brown butter and sour cream – yum!

The homemade pasta filled with ricotta, spinach, and lemon zest was served with a homemade marinara sauce and topped with fresh parmesan cheese.

The apple pierogis had just the right amount of sweetness and was a wonderful way to end a delicious meal!

We ate family-style and devoured everything we made and there was plenty of food. The attendees ranged from 13 to 66 and everyone participated and had a great evening. I went with my daughter, and we had a nice bonding experience.

The class was well organized and we received a recipe packet. I highly recommend you check out The Kitchen and sign up for a class!
