May the Fourth Be With Diane DeVivo! (I know it is only March)

What better day to celebrate Diane DeVivo than May 4th? Not only is she a devoted Star Wars fan, but she’s a true sci-fi enthusiast at heart! However, Diane isn’t just passionate about galaxies far, far away—she’s a force for good right here in Melrose.

Diane wears many hats (sometimes literally — especially when she’s at the zoo!). She’s a peer mentor for the Live Strong program at the YMCA, a free initiative that helps cancer survivors regain strength, endurance, and balance. With her signature humor and boundless encouragement, she’s the ultimate cheerleader, inspiring participants on their wellness journeys.

Beyond the gym, Diane’s love for animals is unmistakable. As a zoo employee, she’s often spotted in fun, animal-themed costumes or accessories, welcoming visitors with enthusiasm and charm.

But her compassion doesn’t stop there. Through Diane DeVivo Coaching, she provides grief counseling, specializing in pet loss, and assists individuals with end-of-life planning. Her mission? To offer comfort, guidance, and the reassurance that every life—human or animal—deserves to be honored with dignity.

Diane’s dedication to Melrose runs deep. She serves as the President of Friends of Melrose Memorial Hall, a volunteer organization committed to preserving and enhancing the historic Melrose Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building. Under her leadership, this treasured landmark remains a vibrant cultural hub, recently hosting a successful gala fundraiser.

A firm believer in democracy and civic engagement, Diane also serves as a poll worker, ensuring elections run smoothly and every vote counts.

And if you’re a book lover, Diane has you covered! She founded a book club at the Melrose Public Library, bringing fellow readers together for great stories and lively discussions.

Diane’s adventurous spirit doesn’t stop in Melrose. She worked for the U.S. State Department, traveling the world—including spending two years in Nicaragua. Despite being "retired," she stays busier than ever, finding endless ways to be involved in the community she proudly calls home.

Her bucket list? She’s already checked off learning to ride a motorcycle, becoming a certified motorcycle instructor, and earning a brown belt in judo. Up next: exploring more of New England and expanding her grief counseling business.

From coaching to community service, Diane DeVivo is a shining star — proof that passion, kindness, and a little bit of sci-fi magic can make the world a better place.
