Melrose Celebrates the Fourth of July

Melrose celebrated the Fourth of July this year with the traditional bike and carriage parade around the Melrose Common and the annual outdoor concert at Mount Hood with the Middlesex Concert Band.

The children's parade was full of smiles, laughter, and patriotic spirit. From decorated bikes and wagons to fun games and festive activities, it was a day packed with unforgettable memories.

Meanwhile, residents assembled by City Hall for the weekly standout to protest actions by the federal administration. Historically, the Fourth of July marks our nation's founding on ideals of liberty, self-government, and the freedom to speak. Peaceful protest can be a way people reflect on those ideals and express hope for a better future. Protests have long been part of the American story.

And in the evening, despite a passing shower, a beautiful rainbow appeared over Melrose — almost as if nature wanted to join the celebration. And while the skies may have been gray for a while, the music went on.

The Mt. Hood Park Association hosted its annual Fourth of July concert featuring the talented Middlesex Concert Band, bringing the community together to celebrate America's 250th birthday with patriotic favorites and hometown spirit.

The Mt Hood Club House was a perfect backdrop for these talented musicians.

A special thank you to Myron Dittmer, President of the Mt Hood Park Assoc, for spearheading this fun event, and to the Melrose VFW Auxiliary, whose members proudly raised the flags, adding the perfect touch of patriotism to an already memorable evening.

Sometimes the best celebrations come with a little rain...and an unforgettable rainbow.
