Paper and Clay's 3rd Anniversary
Written and Photographed by Nancy Clover
Congratulations to Lesley Keegan and Paper and Clay on celebrating three wonderful years!
Paper and Clay holds a special place in my heart — it was my very first review three years ago when Lesley was just opening as a pop-up market on West Emerson Street. What began as a small, creative leap of faith has grown into one of Melrose’s most beloved artisan shops.
Before opening the storefront, Lesley was already selling her beautiful pottery and Serenity Sage products wholesale across the U.S., the U.K., and Canada. Like many artists, she faced the challenge of wholesale commissions that often take up to 50%. Determined to create something better, Lesley envisioned a space where artists could truly thrive.
At Paper and Clay, artists earn 60% commission, and those who work hours in the shop can earn up to 75% — a game-changing model that puts creators first. Over the years, Lesley has collaborated with more than 1,000 artists and small businesses, helping them share their work and grow their dreams.
Another milestone: Lesley has moved her pottery studio out of her home and into the shop, where she now offers pottery classes, inviting the community to create alongside her.
Under the Serenity Sage brand, Lesley also crafts beautiful plant-based aromatherapy and skincare products, along with wheel-thrown pottery, smudge sticks, and candles — all thoughtfully made and deeply rooted in intention.
Paper and Clay is more than a shop; it’s a creative community, a launchpad for artists, and a true Melrose gem.
Here’s to three years — and many more to come!
