Salon Indulgence and New Decade Hair Design

I absolutely love when “competing” businesses choose collaboration over competition — it’s heart-warming and says so much about the kind of community we live in.

When Salon Indulgence by Kimberely needed to temporarily relocate due to construction at the Corinthian Hall building, they moved just down the street into the former home of New Decade Hair Design. New Decade had recently relocated next door to Skin Sense, and instead of seeing a competitor, owner Kathy Farrell saw an opportunity to help. She welcomed Kimberely with open arms and offered kindness, support, and generosity during the transition.

That’s right — two hair salons, technically competitors, working together and lifting each other up. This is what small-business community looks like at its best.

Salon Indulgence by Kimberely has now returned home — and what a return it is! The salon has reopened in a beautifully remodeled space at 525 Franklin Street, located in the historic former Hills Newspaper building. The space is stunning, featuring tin ceilings, exposed brick walls, and large windows that flood the salon with natural light. The new hair-washing chairs are next-level comfortable, and Kimberely still gives the absolute best hair washes — truly pampering and relaxing.

Salon Indulgence is owned by native Melrosian Kimberely Dunne, who shares the space with her daughter Arianna Salvatore, owner of Lux Laser Labs, offering hair removal and facials. A true family business rooted in the community.

And one more fun (and inspiring) fact: Kathy of New Decade Hair Design has walked to work every day for 45 years — snow, sleet, rain, you name it. Talk about dedication, resilience, and small-town spirit.

Stories like this remind us that Melrose isn’t just a place — it’s a community built on kindness, collaboration, and people who genuinely show up for one another.
